# Product Marketing Context

> Create or update their product marketing context document.

Builds a single source of truth for your product marketing: a living context document that captures positioning, audience, pain points, competitors, and customer language so you never repeat foundational details across tasks. It can auto-draft a first version straight from your codebase (README, landing pages, marketing copy) for you to correct and refine. Every downstream marketing effort then reads from this one file, keeping messaging consistent.

## Use cases
- Auto-drafting positioning from your existing codebase and copy
- Capturing the ICP, personas, and jobs-to-be-done in one place
- Documenting direct, secondary, and indirect competitors
- Recording verbatim customer language to use and words to avoid
- Defining brand voice, tone, and proof points once
- Feeding consistent context into copywriting, landing, and email skills

## Benefits
- Stop re-explaining the product on every marketing task
- Keep messaging consistent across pages, ads, and emails
- Anchor every decision against your ICP and positioning statement
- Update once and let downstream materials realign automatically

## What’s included
- Auto-draft-from-codebase or build-from-scratch workflows
- 12-section structure: overview, audience, personas, problems, more
- Positioning statement with the For/Who/Unlike formula
- JTBD Four Forces switching dynamics (push, pull, habit, anxiety)
- Objections and anti-persona capture with response mapping
- A copy-ready markdown template stored in your project

## Who it’s for
Marketers and founders who want a reusable positioning foundation that other marketing skills reference automatically.

## How it runs
Answer the foundational questions once and every downstream marketing task inherits them. The document is built in twelve sections, drafted from your own codebase before a single interview question is asked.
1. Checks whether .claude/product-marketing-context.md already exists. If yes, it summarizes what is captured and updates only the sections the user picks instead of re-asking everything.
2. If starting fresh, it auto-drafts a V1 from the codebase: README, landing pages, marketing copy, meta descriptions and package files, then presents the draft and asks two questions: what needs correcting, what is missing. This beats a blank-page interview.
3. Walks the 12 sections one at a time, never as a question dump: product overview and category, target audience and jobs to be done, B2B personas, pains and their cost, the three-ring competitive landscape (direct, secondary, indirect), differentiation, objections and anti-personas.
4. Captures the harder strategic layers: the JTBD four switching forces (push, pull, habit, anxiety), verbatim customer language with words to use and words to avoid, brand voice, proof points with real metrics, and the one conversion action everything drives toward.
5. Pressure-tests positioning with the canvas sentence: for whom, who has what problem, the product is what category, that delivers what difference, unlike which competitor. Any future message that fails this filter is off-brand.
6. Writes the document to .claude/product-marketing-context.md with a last-updated stamp. From then on copywriting, CRO, popup and ads skills read it automatically, so foundational answers are given once, not repeated per task.

## FAQ
### My product has almost no marketing copy yet, can it still draft the document?
Yes, it has two workflows: auto-draft from your codebase (README, landing pages, existing copy) or build from scratch through the 12-section structure. With little copy, it leans on the from-scratch interview path and you fill the gaps.

### My positioning already lives in a Notion page, what actually changes when it lives in this file instead?
The difference is that downstream marketing skills read this file automatically, so copywriting, landing, and email work pull the same ICP, voice, and proof points without re-briefing. It also structures things a plain doc usually misses, like JTBD Four Forces and anti-personas.

### Does it validate my positioning against real market data?
No. It captures and structures what you know, including verbatim customer language and competitor lists, but it does not run market research or verify your claims. Garbage in stays garbage until you correct the draft.
